Oral and maxillofacial surgeons earn more than any other profession in Kansas, according to the newly released "Kansas Wage Survey 2008 Edition" report. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons in the Sunflower State currently earn an average of $98.66 an hour, compared to the national average of $85.79 an hour.
Orthodontists run a close second, earning an average $98.61 an hour. At $69.22 an hour, general dentists come in at No. 10. Also on the list:

- Anesthesiologists ($88.40)
- Family and general practitioners ($86.75)
- Psychiatrists ($85.38)
- Internists ($83.81)

The survey report, which contains occupation and wage data for the second quarter of 2007, is produced by the Kansas Occupational Employment Statistics program at the Kansas Department of Labor, in conjunction with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
