IADR to honor retired University at Buffalo professor

Stuart Fischman, D.M.D., of the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, will receive the highest honor awarded by the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) at its annual session in July.

Dr. Fischman, professor emeritus of oral diagnostic sciences, will receive the 2008 Pharmacology/Therapeutics/Toxicology Research Award at IADR's General Session and Exhibition in Toronto.

"Fischman is being recognized for 'outstanding and sustained peer-reviewed research that has contributed to our knowledge of the mechanisms, efficacy or safety of drugs used in dentistry,'" a University at Buffalo press release stated.

Dr. Fischman's accomplishments include significant contributions to the evaluation of drugs that prevent or treat dental caries and periodontal disease, the design and management of multiple clinical trials, and more than 100 published articles in research journals.
