Renaissance Dental expands coverage

Renaissance Dental has added new benefits to its standard plan for patients with high risk medical conditions, patients undergoing certain treatments, diabetics, and pregnant women.

For example, the benefits include increased periodontal cleanings for patients with high-risk medical conditions such as kidney failure, suppressed immune systems due to chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment, HIV infection, organ transplant, and/or stem cell (bone marrow) transplant. These patients will be eligible to receive up to four periodontal cleanings annually instead of the traditional two.

"By adding these additional cleanings and periodontal maintenance procedures, we hope to improve the overall health of our members and lower their total healthcare costs," said Jed Jacobson, D.D.S., chief science officer for Renaissance in a press release.

Diabetics and pregnant women with gum disease will receive enhanced coverage. Patients who are undergoing treatments, such as head and neck radiation, or other treatments that cause tooth decay, will be eligible for fluoride treatment.

The benefits will be available nationwide starting Jan. 1 2008.
