Philips introduced a cool, sleek DiamondClean Black Edition of its Sonicare power toothbrush, which comes with a unique glass that charges the toothbrush, at the recent ADA annual meeting in New Orleans. The company also released a DayWhite and NiteWhite version of its home teeth-whitening kits.
The DiamondClean Black Edition toothbrush charges while resting in the charging glass, which can also be used for rinsing. Its diamond-shaped brush head has 44% more bristles than Philips standard-sized ProResults brush head. It also features illuminated brushing modes and a USB travel case that can be plugged into laptops or wall outlets. Suggested retail price is $219.99.
Philips also released DayWhite and NiteWhite versions of its Zoom at-home whitening kits. The whiteners, which are sold at dental offices, have custom-fit trays with whitening gel. The gel contains amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) that, when combined with peroxide, fluoride, and potassium nitrate, results in whiter teeth and reduced sensitivity, according to Philips. It also helps rebuild enamel and fill in surface defects, the company noted.
Both formulas can whiten teeth in two weeks, but NiteWhite delivers results in a week, according to Philips.
DayWhite is worn twice a day for 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the advice of the dental professional; the hydrogen peroxide gel is designed to quickly deliver maximum whitening power.
NiteWhite is used at night for a minimum of four to six hours; the carbamide peroxide gel uses a time-release formula to whiten throughout the night.
Philips also highlighted its Zoom whitening pens at the ADA meeting. The pens are a convenient way for patients to keep their white smiles on-the-go, the company noted. The pocket applicator lets patients brush whitening gel (5.25% hydrogen peroxide) directly on teeth for an instant touch-up.
