ZocDoc, a website where patients can search a database of dentists and doctors and make appointments by grabbing time slots vacated by last-minute cancellations, has garnered $15 million in funding, the company announced.
The private financing was led by Founders Fund, with more than $12 million, while Khosla Ventures added about $2 million, according to a news story in the San Francisco Business Times. Other investors include Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff.
Launched in New York in 2007, ZocDoc -- which likes to describe itself as the OpenTable for dental and medical appointments -- is available in New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, and Washington, DC.
The funding will be used by ZocDoc to "expand its network of practitioners and accelerate its national growth," according to a company press release.
"Right now we're only in four cities," Cyrus Massoumi, ZocDoc co-founder and CEO, told the Business Times. "We want to be in the top 20 metros in the U.S. as soon as possible."
