While it may make you feel better to have your hand in everything, as the practice's primary producer you can raise production dramatically by delegating all nonclinical responsibilities to staff members. Just as important, delegation give will give your practice greater flexibility in day-to-day operations, and it will empower your team members to excel and take pride in their work.

Do

Avoid micromanaging. Delegation is a much more efficient and satisfying way to manage. First, train team members to handle all nonclinical tasks. By doing so, you'll strengthen their performance and commitment to the practice. In addition, delegation enables you to fit more dentistry into your daily schedule, thereby increasing your production potential.

Don

Don't forget to assign responsibility for each target. Every target must be "owned" by the doctor or a staff member. Practice leaders shoulder ultimate responsibility for practice performance. However, because delegation plays a major role in increasing production, most targets should be assigned to team members.
