The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released updated guidance designed to help dental practices stay safe as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. However, the ADA is advising that dentists think twice before making one of the recommended changes.
In its updated guidance, the CDC has removed its recommendation of waiting 15 minutes between patients to allow for disinfection of the room. However, the ADA stated in its response that "it's still very important to allow some time for aerosol droplets to settle prior to disinfection of the room to reduce the potential for virus transmission."
Dental professionals are already asking about what seem to be conflicting thoughts, so we asked dental infection control expert Mary Govoni to help clear through some of the real and perceived issues at play here.
In the latest Dental Assistant Nation podcast, Govoni shared her thoughts on what dental professionals need to know about the updated CDC guidance and the ADA's view, as well as how to stay on top of communicating with your patients about any changes to your procedures.
