Dentist involved in VA bur sterilization failure resigns

The dentist who failed to follow bur sterilization policies at a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical center in Wisconsin has resigned.

The unidentified dentist at the facility in Tomah, WI, was found to have cleaned and reused burs in violation of VA sterilization policies, which has led to nearly 600 patients needing to be screened for HIV and hepatitis.

The dentist's resignation was announced on December 2, according to multiple reports. The center has offered screenings for HIV and hepatitis B and C at no cost to the 592 patients treated by the dentist.
