The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has updated its disability rating schedule for dental and oral conditions.
The VA's Schedule of Rating Disabilities is a collection of regulations to help claims processors determine the severity of a veteran's service-related disability and measure how much the impairment affects their ability to work. The ratings categories are divided into 15 body systems, according to the VA. Each system contains groups of conditions, such as loss of teeth, malignant neoplasms, and more within dental and oral conditions.
Updating the rating schedule for conditions allows claims processors to make more consistent decisions and ensures that veterans understand these decisions, the VA stated. The rating schedules for infectious diseases, immune disorders, and nutritional deficiencies also were updated.
