Northern Michigan University (NMU) is considering developing a dental hygiene program in Marquette to address workforce shortages and improve oral health in the region.
Without dental hygiene programs in northern Michigan, people must leave the area for training and often don't return. This, coupled with the region's aging population, affects the workforce, access to affordable healthcare, and economic development.
NMU received a $71,500 grant from the Delta Dental Foundation for this study, which aims to finish by fall 2025.
