Columbia offers dual dental, engineering degree

Graduation Cap Degree

Columbia University is offering a new program in which students can earn a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in dental biomedical engineering dual degree.

The Dental-Biomedical Engineering Scholars Training program (D-BEST), which aims to advance translational research, education, and patient care in oral health, will welcome its first students in fall 2024. The program hopes to address the current demand for dentists equipped with expertise in translational research.

First, a select group of Columbia dental students will participate in the new eight-year program. In the future, candidates for the program will have undergraduate degrees in engineering and the necessary prerequisites to enter the DDS program.
