John Featherstone, PhD, dean of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Dentistry, has announced he will retire in December 2017.
Featherstone joined the UCSF School of Dentistry in 1995 and has led the dental school as dean for 10 years. During his tenure at UCSF, Featherstone developed the caries management by risk assessment (CAMBRA) tool with his colleagues, introduced a new associate dean position for diversity and inclusion, and created the Dean's Scholarship for Opportunity.
Although Featherstone will retire as both dean and a professor of preventive and restorative dental sciences, he will stay on as professor emeritus to voluntarily continue his cariology research.
