Univ. of Pittsburgh opens new research pavilion

The University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 15 for the new Commons and Research Pavilion, which serves the Pitt School of Dental Medicine and School of Pharmacy.

The new facility consists of a research tower and atrium and is located near the dental and pharmacy schools. It includes a coffee shop featuring original art, a 40-chair conference room, and 36,000 sq ft of additional laboratory space.

The pavilion project began in 2009, and it is intended to enhance student life and accommodate the need for additional research capabilities within both specialty schools. The opening was attended by Patrick Gallagher, chancellor and CEO of the University of Pittsburgh, as well as the deans, alumni, and students of both specialty schools.
