The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) is accepting scholarship applications through May 7 for the 2015-2016 school year.
These scholarships are for students pursuing primary care health profession training leading to dental degrees or other specified disciplines.
In return for tuition, fees, educational costs, and a living stipend, a student must commit to work at least two years at an NHSC-approved site in a medically underserved community, which might be rural, urban, or frontier. These payments, other than the living stipend, are not subject to federal income tax.
During service, which begins at graduation, the practitioner is paid a market-rate salary by the employing facility.
Applications are available at the NHSC website.
