The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Dentistry has named Janet Guthmiller, DDS, PhD, as its new dean. Dr. Guthmiller is currently the associate dean of academic affairs and a professor in the department of periodontology at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry.
Dr. Guthmiller will assume the UNMC position on September 1, after approval is given by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents. She will succeed John Reinhardt, DDS, who served for 14 years as the dental school's dean.
Dr. Guthmiller previously served on the faculty of the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery (now the University of Maryland School of Dentistry) and the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. She has been the associate dean at UNC since 2007.
