Univ. of Leeds appoints new dental dean

The University of Leeds in the U.K. has named Helen Whelton, BDS, PhD, MDPH, as dean of the school's Dental Institute.

Dr. Whelton is also the current president of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), according to an IADR press release.

Previously, she was dean of the Graduate School in the College of Medicine and Health at the University College Cork.

Dr. Whelton has a background in epidemiology, public health, and preventive dentistry, and she has led large national and international multidisciplinary research teams, the IADR noted. She plans to start an international clinical research program to address the links between oral health and general health.
