Loma Linda University School of Dentistry has received a $3 million grant from the First 5 Riverside Children and Families Commission to provide dental care to children with special healthcare needs.
About 840 children with special healthcare needs will get access to oral health services annually through the grant, according to the school. Approximately 750 of the children are expected to receive follow-up dental treatment each year from the grant, which provides dental care to underserved children in Riverside County with special healthcare needs through age 5.
The grant will be allocated over the next four years. It also will be used for case management services, oral healthcare education for parents and caregivers of children with special healthcare needs, transportation, and financial assistance.
Funded by Proposition 10 tobacco tax revenues, First 5 Riverside supports health and early childhood education services designed to help children, prenatal through age 5.
