Become 'motivator-in-chief'
The effective practice CEO motivates staff to perform at the highest level. This includes making sure all team members know what is expected of them and providing plenty of praise and positive feedback.
Make motivation a daily habit. Start every day with a daily business meeting in which goals and expectations are discussed. Be sure to get team input so everyone feels a sense of "ownership." Through the course of the day, give ample encouragement and compliment good performance.
Don't criticize -- re-educate. Even outstanding team members will sometimes fall short of expectations. Rather than criticizing -- which emphasizes what went wrong -- take a positive, motivational approach. Review how the task should be handled and be sure to praise the team member enthusiastically when it is performed correctly.
