East Carolina University (ECU) School of Dental Medicine has installed a fully integrated picture archiving and communication system (PACS) in the school's main clinic and teaching facility and 10 new remote dental clinics and student training facilities in North Carolina.
Both the main and remote clinics will provide dental services for the local community with state-of-the-art medical imaging technology based on the DICOM standard, according to the university. The centers are being developed to bring dental care into rural and underserved areas of North Carolina.
Aycan Medical Systems integrated the school's PACS, which includes Aycan Store, a scalable DICOM-compliant archiving and distribution system; Aycan workstation OsiriX Pro, a 64-bit workstation for conventional, multislice, and other image reading; AxiUm patient record system; and Apteryx software that converts dental film-scanner output into DICOM format.
