Roseman Univ. opens emergency dental clinic in Utah

The Roseman University College of Dental Medicine has opened an emergency dental clinic at the campus in South Jordan, UT, the university announced.

The Emergency Patient Clinic, which will initially be staffed by faculty members until students from the college's inaugural doctor of dental medicine (DMD) class can start work in 2013, will offer examinations, dental x-rays, extractions, preventive services, root canals, and dental fillings.

The clinic is "a great first step toward enhancing the capacity of our profession to provide affordable dental care in Utah," said Brian Lacey, director of clinical operations of the dental colleage. "In the future, we will be able to offer expanded care options, including preventive and comprehensive treatment options through clinical practice teams, when our student dentists enter the clinical phase of their education in 2013."

The clinic fees will be approximately 66% less than the usual fees in the practicing community, and the clinic will serve adults and school-age children.
