BDA warns of rising U.K. school tuition

The British Dental Association (BDA) is warning about the impact that soaring tuitions could have on the future of the U.K.'s dental profession.

In evidence collected as part of a review of higher education reform, the BDA has noted that new dentists facing debts of more than 50,000 pounds ($79,000 U.S.) could be a major issue, according to a story on Zenopa.com.

Growing tuition costs could discourage many from joining the profession, particularly among low-income or ethnic minority families, resulting in a lack of diversity in the trade, the group said.

Although the BDA accepts the need for reform, more consideration should be given to planned measures, while highlighting the need for continued investment, the association noted.

Government mishandling of the dental industry has made it among the worst of times to be a dentist, according to the BDA.
