Delta Dental of Tennessee is funding a new dental simulation center at Meharry Medical College that will provide reality-based training for the school's dental students.
Delta Dental is donating $770,000 for the 3,300-sq-ft Delta Dental of Tennessee Simulation Center. The center will use a multimedia teaching system that incorporates manikins with computer simulators to provide a reality-based experience. The training will shorten the learning curve for students and allow for a smoother transition from training to patient care, according to Delta Dental.
Construction of the dental simulation lab will begin immediately, and the lab is expected to be open for training by January 2012.
