Calif. dental worker gets 4 years in prison for identity theft

A former Santa Clara, CA, dental office employee who stole information from patient records to buy luxury products is now facing four years in prison, according to a news story in the San Jose Mercury News.

Nick Luu, 30, of Vallejo, was part of a five-member ring that defrauded at least 29 people of $180,000 between June 2009 and December 2009, the Mercury reported.

They used the information to create false driver's licenses, file illegal change-of address forms, and buy items such as high-end clothing to jewelry, which they often flipped for cash.

Luu has pleaded guilty and will be formally sentenced in January, the story concluded.
