Coast Dental Services has finalized its purchase of the assets of Dental Technology (DTI), doing business as SmileCare, and Community Dental Services, a California licensed healthcare service plan.
DTI and its subsidiaries operate 57 SmileCare dental practices in California, Nevada, and Texas, and employ 1,200 staff members, including 130 dentists.
All SmileCare dental centers will continue to operate under the SmileCare brand name, according to the company.
The addition of the SmileCare practices makes Coast Dental, based in Tampa, FL, the fifth largest provider of dental practice support in the U.S., with 182 affiliated practices and 2,200 employees. Prior to the acquisition, Coast Dental, with its professional associations, had 125 affiliated practices in Florida and Georgia.
