New York Sen. Martin Golden (D-Brooklyn) has introduced Senate Bill 2923, a new bill that would require dental offices to possess automatic external defibrillators (AEDs).
The legislation was introduced to the state Senate on February 3.
A growing number of states are requiring dental offices that use conscious sedation to have AEDs in their offices, according to the Academy of General Dentistry.
SB 2923 amends existing legislation that requires New York dentists to be certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and maintain that certification on a regular basis.
