Mass. school to provide dental care for uninsured students

Students in Norton, MA, schools who have trouble accessing dental services or who have not seen a dentist in more than a year will receive care under a new program, according to a story in the Norton Mirror.

The program would permit dental hygienists and assistants to come into the schools twice a year to conduct routine cleanings, screenings, and sealant and fluoride treatments on students who choose to utilize the service.

Students with dental insurance or those covered by the state's MassHealth plan would have the services paid for through their plan. Students without insurance would still be able to take advantage of the in-school service without paying any money out of pocket, as grants would cover the cost of services provided to uninsured students, according to the story.

The program would also be available on a voluntary basis to students who have accessible dental care but wish to utilize the in-school services. It would also help students who require further oral care to find a dentist in the area or refer them to an oral health center.

Cleanings and other services would be provided by Commonwealth Mobile Oral Health Services, a company that provides dental services to more than 143 public schools throughout Massachusetts.
