NY dentist buys van to help Medicaid patients

A New York dentist is hoping to help more of his patients get to and from their dental appointments with the help of a 15-passenger van he recently purchased, according to a story in the Press & Sun-Bulletin.

Michael Wilson, D.D.S., who practices in Binghamton, said the van will travel as far away as Elmira, Ithaca, Oneonta, Norwich, and Montour Falls, in addition to serving patients in the Binghamton area. Dr. Wilson is paying for the $19,000 van and taxi service out of his own pocket.

Wilson Dental serves primarily patients on Medicaid, according to Dr. Wilson. The practice has 15 dentists on staff, plus two pediatric specialists, an oral surgeon, and an orthodontist, he noted. The office is open 80 hours a week, including Saturdays and Sundays, and serves patients from any New York county on Medicaid.

Since opening Wilson Dental nearly three years ago, Dr. Wilson and his staff have treated more than 12,000 patients, he said.
