The Mississippi Division of Medicaid and Shared Health have launched an electronic health record (EHR) and electronic prescribing system for more than 500,000 Medicaid beneficiaries.
Under a four-year, $9.5 million contract, Shared Health is working with the Mississippi Division of Medicaid to connect the Medicaid beneficiaries' medical information across his/her network of clinical providers using Shared Health products and services. The Mississippi Division of Medicaid will also be able to store records electronically in a secure location, allowing access to those records even in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
Electronic records should give physicians, dentists, pharmacists, and other providers better access to patients' health histories, Medicaid spokesperson Francis Rullan said. The U.S. government is paying most of the costs, with the Mississippi state government paying about $1.6 million, Rullan said.
