Wichita State University has chosen a contractor to construct a $6.6 million building for Kansas' first dental residency program, according to the Wichita Business Journal.
In addition to the Advanced Education in General Dentistry program, the building will house a community clinic. After a year of training at this facility, first-year residents will rotate to other community and rural health clinics, the newspaper reported.
Martin K. Eby Construction will build the facility, a job expected to take about a year, according to the Journal.
Funding came from private donations, according to the report. The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration has designated 84 Kansas counties and the cities of Topeka and Wichita as dentistry shortage areas, according to the newspaper.
