ADA backs dental bill for certain Medicaid patients

The ADA is supporting legislation that would require states to provide "appropriate and necessary oral health benefits" to Medicaid-eligible aged, blind, or disabled persons, according to an ADA News article.

Currently, adult dental services are optional under Medicaid, with most states providing little or no coverage. H.R. 5364, the Special Care Dentistry Act of 2010 sponsored by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI), asks for coverage through a separate state adult dental program, according to the article.

Some 28% of Medicaid enrollees are classified as aged, blind, or disabled, the article noted.
