Texas Tech to build dental school in El Paso

Texas Tech University announced plans to establish a new University Health Science Center in El Paso that would produce hundreds of physicians, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, and allied health professionals, according to a story in the El Paso Times.

On Dec. 10, Texas Tech University System Chancellor Kent Hance presented his vision for the system's El Paso campus, which now includes a school of nursing and the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. Over the next several years, the campus will be transformed into the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso, with the addition of schools of dentistry, pharmacy, and allied health.

The project is still in the early planning stages; neither a budget nor a timeline has been established, according to the news story. School officials are now gearing up to develop proposals for federal, state, and private funds to support the project, they told the El Paso Times.
