The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) have both elected new vice presidents.
Brian O'Connell, BDS, PhD, will serve as the IADR's new vice president. Currently, Dr. O'Connell is the dean of dental affairs at Dublin Dental University Hospital at Trinity College in Ireland. He also is a professor of restorative dentistry.
Dr. O'Connel has held several IADR leadership positions, including treasurer, as well as president, council member, and founding member of the organization's Irish division. Dr. O'Connell was a 1992 IADR Unilever Hatton Award winner.
Jane Weintraub, DDS, will serve as the AADR's new vice president. She is the R. Gary Rozier and Chester W. Douglass Distinguished Professor in Dental Public Health and the former dean of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry.
Dr. Weintraub chairs AADR's ethics in dental research committee, and she has held several AADR leadership positions, including its board member-at-large. Finally, she is the recipient of the 2009 IADR H. Trendley Dean Memorial Award for meritorious research in epidemiology and public health.
Both of their terms will begin after the 2020 International Association for Dental Research (IADR) meeting, which will be held in conjunction with the AADR and the Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR) meetings, from March 18-21, 2020, in Washington, DC.
