
Dr. Tom Giacobbi is back with another installment of his Just a Minute, Doc video series, and this time, he is focusing on dental unit waterlines (DUWLs).
With Georgia adopting a new rule on water quality in dental practices, DUWLs are in the crosshairs there and in many other states. It's a good reminder for dental practices to have their infection control regimen in check, Dr. Giacobbi believes.

"Let's talk about the latest state to adopt a dental unit waterline regulation. It's the great state of Georgia, and by the way, most states require us to follow the CDC guidelines for clean drinking water, that's defined by less than 500 CFUs per mL.
"This is your friendly reminder to establish an ongoing protocol with daily prevention, monthly testing, and quarterly shocking. This is critical to the health of your dental unit waterlines. Even if you don't live in the Peach State, there are many states that are starting to adopt regulations, just like this one. Be sure to make it a habit to document all of your efforts.
