The California Dental Association (CDA) Foundation's two-day CDA Cares dental clinic provided $1.66 million in charitable dental services to nearly 2,000 people during a recent two-day event in Pomona, CA.
During the November 21-22 event, dentists and dental professionals provided fillings, extractions, cleanings, and oral health education. Additionally, volunteer technicians in the dental lab area worked to provide 267 full and partial dentures and repairs.
The Pomona clinic was also supported by 1,752 volunteers, including more than 900 health professionals -- dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, nurses, and dental lab technicians -- as well as hundreds of community volunteers who helped make the event a success.
The CDA provides free dental services and oral health education to Californians who have barriers to care. In addition, the event is an opportunity to educate the public and policymakers about the importance of oral health and the need for an adequately funded state oral health infrastructure, according to the foundation.
The CDA Foundation has hosted six CDA Cares events since 2012, with 9,813 volunteers providing $9.16 million in dental services to 11,901 patients.
The next CDA Cares event is scheduled for Sacramento, CA, in March 2015. For more information, to register to volunteer, or to donate, visit cdafoundation.org.
