A Canadian dentist paid 19,500 pounds ($31,200 U.S.) for a decayed molar of the late Beatle John Lennon, which the musician had given to his housekeeper.
Michael Zuk, DDS, a general practitioner in Red Deer, Alberta, made the winning bid by phone in an auction held in Stockport, U.K., according to the BBC.
Dr. Zuk, who has written a book on celebrities' teeth, plans to display the tooth in his office as well as take it on a tour of dental schools.
Lennon had given it to his housekeeper because her daughter was a big fan.
An auction spokesperson described the molar as "rather gruesome, yellowy, browny with a cavity," the story stated.
The tooth had been expected to sell for about $15,000.
