Dental products distributor Benco Dental offers its employees low-cost screenings and other health-focused programs such as smoking cessation classes, exercise programs, and flu vaccines.
Warehouse worker Aaron Herron said an ultrasound test detected that he had blocked carotid arteries; he underwent surgery in 2008 that saved his life, according to a story in the Citizens Voice.
The screening was not done at a hospital but at Benco. If the test was done at a hospital, it would have cost him about $200. Benco offers the same tests to employees for $15, the story stated.
Lifeline screenings are among many initiatives Benco offers to promote and sustain a healthy workplace environment. The results have been successful in keeping employees healthy, Deb Hammaker, risk, safety, and wellness manager, told the Citizens Voice.
The initiatives have won the company the Healthy Workplace Award this year from the local chamber of commerce in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
