Dentist sues bank over missing gold

A retired dentist in Vancouver, British Columbia, has filed a lawsuit against the Royal Bank claiming that more than $100,000 worth of gold is missing from his safety deposit box after bank officials gave someone else access to it, according to a news story in the Vancouver Sun.

Dr. Jerry Sandbrand, 69, has been a Royal Bank customer for almost 40 years and leased the safety deposit box in 1996, according to the story.

Dr. Sandbrand claims the box contained more than $100,000 worth of gold, including 25 ounces of gold dental castings and 4 ounces of scrap gold dental fillings and crowns.

He said the bank's manager initially admitted the mistake, but after officials refused to admit liability he filed a lawsuit.
