CarieScan signs U.K. distribution pact with Clark Dental

CarieScan has entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with Clark Dental, a specialist in marketing and distribution of dental equipment in the U.K.

Under the terms of the agreement, Clark Dental will have exclusive distribution rights within the U.K. market for the CarieScan Pro. For CarieScan, the deal is potentially worth up to 4 million pounds ($6.5 million) in revenue over the next three years, the company stated.

The CarieScan Pro consists of a handpiece and a disposable sensor that is held against the tooth for approximately four seconds to assess the presence of tooth decay. It uses AC impedance spectroscopy to determine the mineral density of the dental substrate, thus measuring the presence of tooth decay earlier and more accurately than any other device on the market, according to the company. In fact, the device is more than 90% accurate in detecting both sound and carious teeth, CarieScan claims.

CarieScan was established in May 2008 and uses technology developed at the universities of St. Andrews and Dundee.
