The Mission of Mercy (MOM) free dental clinic held during the ADA 2014 annual meeting in San Antonio treated a total of 1,206 patients who received dental treatment valued at $526,474, according to an ADA News story.
The clinic was held on Sunday, October 12, and ran from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., but patients began lining up outside of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center on Saturday evening. Patients received cleanings, restorations, oral surgery, and endodontic and prosthodontic treatments, including six full sets of dentures. Other services included radiography and dental education.
The 100-chair dental clinic employed 161 dentists and nearly 770 other volunteers, including dental hygienists, dental assistants, dental laboratory technicians, other dental office staff, dental students, dental hygiene students, dental assisting students, predental students, and medical professionals, as well as friends and family members of volunteers.
