Viral TikTok video reveals what teens may do for perfect smiles

A 19-year-old TikTok user took DIY beauty to the extreme by attempting to perfect her smile using nothing but a nail file. Her at-home dentistry escapade prompted some viewers to admit to doing the same, according to a story recently published in Newsweek.

At age 10, Christina Scully wanted fangs, so she began shaping her teeth. Tired of her pronounced front teeth that she compared to “American Girl doll teeth,” the Michigan resident picked up the nail file and began sculpting them again, according to the story.

"I honestly have no clue why I hit post, but I'm glad I did because thousands of people related to my video,” Scully said in the story. “The reaction was a mixture between shock and relating to my craziness."

Luckily, Scully’s actions didn't result in permanent damage. However, on social media platforms like TikTok, seeing others trying extreme methods to improve their smiles may lead young people to imitate them and potentially damage their teeth.

Her viral video from January 12 garnered 23.8 million views, 1.4 million likes, and 6,900 comments on TikTok, with one user sharing, “The way I did this too because everyone said I have buck teeth."
