JEBDP report covers latest periodontal, implant treatments

The Journal of Evidence-Based Dental Practice (JEBDP) has published its inaugural edition of "The Annual Report on Periodontal and Implant Treatment."

The issue has evidence-based reviews on practice-critical topics and is part of a new series of annual reports devoted to concise reviews on important topics in specific areas.

Mark A. Reynolds, DDS, PhD, professor, chair, and director of postgraduate periodontics at University of Maryland School of Dentistry is the editor.

The report presents 18 focused reviews, contributed by dental academicians and clinicians from U.S. and Europe. Reviews are organized into the following categories:

  • Periodontal disease diagnosis and risk assessment, which has new findings on the links between periodontal disease and systemic health
  • Periodontal treatment, which offers new nonsurgical and surgical periodontal treatment techniques, and a perspective article on guided regeneration
  • Implant and peri-implant treatment, including an update on alveolar ridge preservation after tooth extraction and an evidence-based approach to immediate rehabilitation of the edentulous patient
  • Oral conditions important in periodontal and implant patients, which focuses on dentin hypersensitivity and jaw osteonecrosis, including what treatments are and aren't effective

The annual report also contains about 20 previously published article analysis and reviews from past issues of the JEBDP.

The information is aimed at periodontists, prosthodontists, and oral and maxillofacial surgeons, but is also appropriate for general dental practitioners and dental hygienists involved in treating patients with or at risk of periodontal and peri-implant disease, the publication stated in a press release.
