The Australian government will provide $7.5 million in funding for three new research centers, one of which will be dedicated to oral healthcare issues.
The Centre of Research Excellence in Primary Oral Health Care will focus on improving oral healthcare in a country where 1 in 5 people has severe periodontal disease by addressing knowledge gaps and forging links between dental care and primary healthcare, according to the Australian Primary Health Care Research Institute. The center will be based at the University of Adelaide in collaboration with the University of Tasmania.
The other two centers will focus on obesity and primary healthcare.
All three centers will have three primary research objectives: access and equity, prevention and management of chronic conditions, and quality, governance, performance, and sustainability.
