Ann Benson, a registered dental hygienist (RDH) from Mesa, AZ, is the first recipient of the new Crest Oral-B Pros in the Profession award program, created to honor RDHs who go above and beyond the call of duty.
Benson was selected from a pool of qualified candidates for her initiative in starting Mobile Dentistry of Arizona, a practice that brings comprehensive dental care to those with limited transportation.
Providing excellent oral care for all is a passion for Benson, who works tirelessly to combat tooth decay and gum disease in her surrounding community.
Together with a staff of three doctors, three assistants, and one other hygienist, Benson visits skilled nursing, long-term care, and other age-qualified communities and assisted living homes in and around the Phoenix metro area to provide dental care to residents. Since starting Mobile Dentistry of Arizona in June 2009, Benson has noticed a growing demand for their services, especially for patients with Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
"I am so honored to be recognized by Crest Oral-B as their first of five Pros in the Profession," said Benson, who graduated from University of Iowa, in a press release. "I truly love what I do and could not imagine doing anything else."
As a Pro in the Profession winner, Benson will receive a $1,500 monetary prize, an all-expense-paid trip to American Dental Hygienists' Association's 2011 annual meeting in Nashville, TN, in June; a spa experience; an award and recognition at major conferences and in dental trade publications throughout the year; and an exclusive trip to Procter & Gamble headquarters.
