Qualstar will be exhibiting a new computer mouse based on its patent-pending touchless pointing technology at the annual California Dental Association meeting in San Francisco, September 9-11, 2010.
The touchless mouse, called Topo Jojo, represents a new approach to preventing cross contamination in dental offices and other medical environments, the company said. Unlike a traditional mouse, this device uses infrared sensor technology to detect the user's finger motion in the air to control movement of the cursor on any display or laptop screen.
Touch-free control totally eliminates operator contact with any surface as with a traditional mouse, thus eliminating a major risk of patient-to-patient bacterial contamination, Qualstar said.
"With computers and digital technology becoming more and more integrated with the delivery of dental care, the traditional computer mouse has become a significant source of contamination risk in medical environments," said Bill Gervais, Qualstar president and CEO, in a press release. "Our touchless mouse is the next step in preventing cross contamination and can lower the risk to both practitioners and patients in today's data-centric dental offices."
