Mom to spend 9 months in jail for son's dental neglect

A Washington woman was sentenced to nine months in jail for failing to seek timely dental care for her developmentally disabled son, according to a story in the Yakima Herald-Republic.

Jurors convicted Kathren Ann Carter in February in Yakima County Superior Court. She will serve three months in custody, then be on electronic home monitoring for the rest of her sentence, the Herald-Republic reported.

Prosecutors alleged that Carter's 10-year-old adopted son went without necessary medical care for a year. The boy was removed from Carter's custody in 2008, the same year the case was filed, and placed into foster care. The state is now seeking to terminate Carter's parental rights, according to the story.
