Unimed-Midwest launches disposable face shield

Unimed-Midwest this week launched a disposable face shield that provides greater protection than paper or fabric masks, according to the company.

Splash Shield Lite consists of a reusable plastic frame (available in four colors) and an optically clear, disposable face shield.

The frame rests on the forehead (padded by foam attached to the inside of the shield), and is held by the sides of the frame resting above the ears. The foam padding also holds the shield out in front of the face, which, when combined with the shield's antifog coating, is intended to ensure a continually clear viewing area, according to the company.

Because the shields are disposable, users always get a clear, scratch-free viewing area, Unimed-Midwest said. The shield also offers coverage of the front and side of the face for peripheral vision.

The frame can be cleaned with a disinfectant wipe, and the soiled shield is disposed of and replaced. (The company does not recommend disinfecting and reusing the disposable shield because disinfectants can destroy its fog-free coating.) Splash Shield Lite is also 100% latex-free.

Splash Shield Lite is available in two shield lengths: 5¾ inches and 7½ inches. Both shield sizes are available in starter sets that contain four frames and 20 shields, as well as replacement frames and shields.
