Two University of Nebraska Medical Center staff members have received awards from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services' (DHHS) Office of Oral Health and Dentistry for their dental public health initiatives.
Dr. Gregory Bennett and Erin Wirth received awards for Sustained Excellence in Nebraska Oral Health Promotion, Disease Prevention, and Patient Education from the Nebraska DHHS Office of Oral Health and Dentistry, recognizing their contributions to public health in Nebraska.
Bennett, an associate professor, was honored for his work at the 2023 Veterans Mission of Mercy event, where he led the prosthodontic section, providing free denture care to 60 patients.
Wirth, the school's director of communications, marketing, and community outreach, was recognized for her role in the Early Dental Health Starter Kit Educational Program, which distributes free dental health kits to children from birth to age 6 to prevent dental disease.
