The new owner of StaffMD, a physicians' employment Web site, is planning to offer its services to dentists. MedCareers Group is purchasing StaffMD, which lists more than 60,000 jobs for physicians on its Web site, physicianwork.com.
StaffMD is viewed by candidates more than 1 million times each year, the company said.
MedCareers expects to close its deal for StaffMD by May 4, 2010, then begin reaching out to dentists and nurses. "Temporary staffing in the healthcare field is well-established with physicians and nurses, but temporary staffing is still a relatively new concept in dentistry," MedCareers stated in a press release.
The company sees dentistry as an emerging opportunity because the number of dental schools and dental school graduates in the U.S. has remained largely fixed over the past few years, while the U.S. population has continued to grow. As a result, the company anticipates that a shortage of dentists will drive the use of temporary staffing companies for dentistry practitioners.
"The belief that there is a growing opportunity in dental staffing is bolstered by the fact that a few years ago, leading healthcare staffing firms received virtually no requests for temporary staffing for dentists," MedCareers stated. "Today, however, many of these firms receive thousands of dentistry practitioner requests from government-funded and private dental practices nationwide."
StaffMD owns the domain names dentistwork.com and dentistwork.net. Web sites for these domain names are expected to be developed within 90 days after the closing of the StaffMD acquisition to capitalize on the emerging dentistry staffing area opportunity.
MedCareers also plans to improve its Web sites with technology that emphasizes local search, allowing job seekers to look for work near where they live.
