Dentists in Oregon who receive vaccine certification can now administer all vaccines, including an approved COVID-19 vaccine, according to news reports.
Last year, Oregon became the first state in the U.S. to allow dentists to prescribe and administer any vaccine that patients can get from a physician when HB 2220 was signed into law. Dentists in Minnesota and Illinois can only give vaccines for the flu.
The state's lone dental school, Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry, began vaccine training for its students and faculty in the spring. It is now training private dentists to give vaccines for infections such as the flu and HPV. Once dentists receive vaccine certification, they can administer vaccines to patients.
