Week in Review: Oral ulcers and COVID-19 | Sealing a split tooth? | 3 interesting quotes

Dear DrBicuspid Member,

It may have been a short work week with the Memorial Day holiday, but there were still plenty of stories that readers pored over on DrBicuspid.com.

One of our most popular articles of the week focused on painful ulcers in the oral cavity that may be linked to SARS-CoV-2 infection, which causes COVID-19. This is thought to be the first reported case of oral lesions being a possible symptom of COVID-19, the authors noted in a very interesting case study.

With COVID-19, our dental industry continues to change and evolve in regard to what is considered "safe practice." With recently released guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), I asked dental infection control expert Mary Govoni to come on a podcast with me to discuss the impact on dental practices. At just under 25 minutes, Govoni gives some great tips and pieces of advice.

Speaking of Govoni, she was one of our speakers at the recent DrBicuspid.com 2020 Spring Virtual CE Conference and Trade Show. The show's entire speaking lineup is now on demand, and you can learn about topics ranging from infection control to social media while earning continuing education (CE) credit for free. Contact our director of education, Roger Adams, for your CE certificate once you have completed any or all of the courses from the virtual show.

Our industry has also changed when it comes to the business side of things. We put together three quotes from leaders in the industry about the current state of dentistry, as well as what changes might be coming in 2020 and beyond.

Finally, did you see this bit of clinical news? Clinicians preserved a patient's split tooth using a nonsurgical technique that included widening and sealing the fracture gap with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and composite, according to a recent case report. As the authors state, "The method of restoring split teeth with MTA and composite is a treatment option worth considering." What do you think?

Thank you, as always, for reading DrBicuspid.com. We continue to wish you and your business nothing but success.
